Halloween (2018)

“The Original Scream Queen” Featurette

A notorious slasher like Michael Myers is nothing without its final girl. For most of the Halloween franchise, that sole survivor has been Laurie Strode. Jamie Lee Curtis is entirely responsible for making this role so iconic. Since 1978, Jamie Lee Curtis has become a staple of the franchise just like Michael himself. When Halloween Resurrection premiered in 2002, that was presumably the last on-screen appearance that the famed actress was going to make as Laurie Strode. However, after a 16-year hiatus, Jamie Lee Curtis was back and ready to take on the bogeyman in Halloween (2018).

If you’re looking to see how the cast and crew behind Halloween (2018) managed to bring back Jamie Lee Curtis, be sure to watch "The Original Scream Queen," one of the many extras that can be found in our "Featurettes" section.

As a part of this behind-the-scenes content, you’ll see just how burdened Laurie Strode has become because of the events that took place 40 years ago. If you remember, Laurie managed to survive an attack from Michael Myers on one fateful Halloween night. Since then, she has become hellbent on killing the bogeyman once and for all. Jamie Lee Curtis says that Laurie Strode “can’t move forward in her life. Everything else has sort of fallen away from her because she knows Michael Myers will come again.” This fear and paranoia completely changes who Laurie Strode used to be. She is no longer that innocent babysitter we saw back in 1978. Now, she is the hunter chasing her prey.

No one else can play such a scarred and weathered person quite like Jamie Lee Curtis does. John Carpenter, the director of the original Halloween film, says that “Jamie Lee has a quality to her. She has an energy and an innocence and a drive.”

Alongside Carpenter, many other people in the cast and crew praised Jamie Lee Curtis for her unequaled acting abilities, especially in the horror genre. Andi Matichak, who plays Allyson in the film, admits that she is “in awe of her every day.” It’s no secret that, whether someone worked with her on the original or on the newest installment, Jamie Lee Curtis has had an effect on every one in some way or another.

Halloween (2018) - Andi MatichakDuring this exclusive, you’ll come to understand just how versatile Jamie Lee Curtis is in her range as an actress. From an action scene to a screaming scene, she is able to pull it off effortlessly. Even after so many years away from the role, it is quite incredible to see that Jamie Lee Curtis is able to jump right back in to the part as if not one day has passed. She proved it in 1978 and she is continuing to prove it today.

Jamie Lee Curtis will forever be the original scream queen.
