When innocent young black man Ashtray is forced to move into a tough Los Angeles neighborhood with his family, he is introduced to a bizarrely comic crime underworld by his nuclear-armed gangster cousin, Loc Dog. But when he falls for urban poet Dashiki, and she convinces him to go straight, he must deal with her manic ex-boyfriend Toothpick.
