When Charles Horman, a young American writer and filmmaker, disappears during a South American military coup, his wife and father join together in a desperate search to find him. As they try to figure out what really happened to Charles, they are confronted with lies and false hopes from both U.S. and foreign officials, eventually uncovering a trail of cover-ups.
