George C. Scott is Sherlock Holmes, or so he thinks, and Joanne Woodward is Dr. Watson, Mildred Watson that is, in this touching comedy. Justin Playfair (Scott) is a wealthy New York judge who believes he is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famed sleuth. When his brother and sister-in-law attempt to get him committed, he is put under the care of a psychiatrist by the name of Dr. Watson (Woodward). To her amazement, she finds there is something very real in Justin's delusion and the two take to the streets of Manhattan to seek out the "detective's" arch-enemy, Professor Moriarty. The whimsical story directed by Anthony Harvey and co-starring Jack Gilford, offers a humorous lesson about life and humanity.
