Premiering to rave reviews at Tribeca Film Festival, the documentary unveils a little-known period of John Lennon's private life delving into his relationship with his assistant May Pang. Directed by Eve Brandstein, Richard Kaufman, and Stuart Samuels, THE LOST WEEKEND: A LOVE STORY is told through May’s singular insider’s perspective and captures the love affair that shaped Lennon’s most prolific post-Beatles era.
An intimate portrayal of one of the world’s most iconic musicians, THE LOST WEEKEND: A LOVE STORY debuts on digital and Blu-ray™ for the very first time on October 13, 2023, the week of John Lennon’s birthday, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Audiences can pre-order the film now.
THE LOST WEEKEND: A LOVE STORY is the true tale that took 50 years to tell. It follows John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s personal assistant, May Pang, as she recounts her 18-month relationship with John—a relationship orchestrated by Yoko herself. During this extraordinary period, May helped John reunite with his son Julian and participated firsthand in his most productive period post-Beatles in which he released albums like Mind Games, Walls and Bridges, and collaborated with powerhouses like David Bowie and Elton John. Featuring moments with Julian Lennon, Mick Jagger, Alice Cooper, and Paul McCartney, May chronicles it all from her unique perspective as a 22-year-old experiencing her first unforgettable love.
The announcement was made by Briarcliff’s CEO Tom Ortenberg.
“As a music lover and a real fan of the Beatles, I am excited to partner with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and this group of incredible filmmakers to share May’s amazing story with audiences,” said Ortenberg. “THE LOST WEEKEND is a story that will resonate deeply with anyone captivated by the magic of John Lennon and the complexities of human relationships.”
“After 50 years, I finally get to share my story of John and myself through my eyes and my voice. I want to thank Tom Ortenberg for making this a reality for me,” said May Pang.
Directed by Eve Brandstein, Richard Kaufman and Stuart Samuels, THE LOST WEEKEND is produced by Christal Curry, Brandstein, Kaufman and Samuels.
Executive Producers include Micki Purcell, Peggy Taylor, Eric DeWitt, Randy & Sherry Fix, Kate & Hans Morris, Fred Freeman, Harri Mark, Bob Francis, Jonathan Gould.
The deal was negotiated by Tom Ortenberg and Jessica Rose on behalf of Briarcliff Entertainment and by Phil Daniels of Ginsburg Daniels Kallis on behalf of the filmmakers.
