"Take Control" Featurette
While watching your favorite moments from Fast & Furious 6, you also get access to amazing Fast & Furious 6 features and exclusive content about the film. As a part of our collection of Featurettes, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and director Justin Lin give viewers a new understanding by revealing inside information about the making of the movie in "Take Control."
Fast & Furious 6 represents the final installment of the second trilogy in the franchise. Since the first film came out in 2001, the movies have become wildly popular around the globe. Enjoying decades-long success, the franchise remains relevant by tying films into groups of three. This allows the cast and crew to explore an arc without creating too much of a drawn-out storyline. Fast & Furious 6’s tagline, “All Roads Lead to This” is an indication of the summation of the second trilogy.
A main draw to this Fast & Furious 6 behind-the-scenes video is the intense and unique car stunts that appear on screen. Car aficionados especially love the details that director Justin Lin puts into the car choices, and the special effects surrounding the crashes.
Perhaps one of the most impressive and satisfying stunts in the sixth movie is the Flip Car. This vehicle essentially has a ramp at the front designed to flip cars that are coming from the opposite direction. According to Vin Diesel, “The Flip Car is a [sic] opportunity for us to push the realm of racing or car action sequences to the next level.”
As a beloved member of the cast, the late Paul Walker happened to also be a car enthusiast. In this Fast & Furious 6 featurette, he expresses that, for him, working on the driving scenes was one of the best parts of filming Fast & Furious 6. He also talks about the Flip Car but talks more about how it drives rather than the design or development. While in some ways the vehicle drives like a normal car, it has an added toggle that helps actors and/or stunt experts execute the drifts and maneuvers that you see in the Fast & Furious 6 features and beyond.
Michelle Rodriguez also talks about the fight scenes in the movie. Though the car stunts are by far the central points of action in the movies, she was surprised to find that Fast & Furious 6 required intense physical training on her behalf. She and co-star Gina Carano (a trained MMA fighter) practiced and prepared for months for the movie’s big fight scene. Rodriguez says, “Me and Gina took some hard hits just getting it done and trying to make the best show for you.”
The Fast & Furious 6 extras also touch on the movie’s heartfelt ending, which includes an homage to the franchise’s very first film which was shot in 1999. The prayer scene was even set in the same location as the 2001 film and gives the characters a level of depth and personability that may not always be obvious in an action film.
