“Bringing Back BOURNE” Featurette

Return to the role that Matt Damon was born to play in Jason Bourne. While you’re watching the exciting fifth-installment in the Bourne franchise, be sure to check out all the exhilarating behind-the-scenes content that comes with your copy of the movie. Under the “Making Of Featurettes” section, learn how the cast and crew managed to bring back Jason Bourne in the extra, “Bringing Back BOURNE.”

Since the last time Matt Damon starred in the titular role back in 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, fans had been clamoring for a continuation of Jason Bourne’s story. Julia Stiles, who plays Nicky Parsons, says that “Strangers on the street will constantly ask me, ‘When are they making another Bourne movie?’” Come 2016, the fans got their answer when Jason Bourne premiered on the big-screen. Given the massive popularity surrounding the film series, everyone involved in the making of Jason Bourne had to make sure that the iconic character was brought back in the right way.

As you will learn in this featurette, Matt Damon’s favorite part of making the sequel was working with director Paul Greengrass again. Damon and Greengrass actually worked together on The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, so it was only fitting that they reunited to continue the story that they started almost a decade ago. However, it took them both a while to craft the perfect continuation. They didn’t just want to tell any old story - they needed to make it feel like an authentic Bourne adventure.

Jason Bourne - Paul GreengrassDirector Paul Greengrass admits that “The easy thing for us all to have done would have been to turn up years ago and just done one without much thought. But, I know I didn’t want to do that, and I know Matt didn’t want to do that. And, that’s why we didn’t.” As you can tell while watching, this story is unlike any other Bourne film you have seen. It’s full of twists and turns and has Jason Bourne like you’ve never seen him before.

It had almost been nine years since The Bourne Ultimatum presumably concluded the trilogy. After the credits rolled back in 2007, many people probably asked themselves, “What is Jason Bourne doing now?” That very question persuaded Paul Greengrass and his crew to explore what the character might be up to after such a long hiatus. Christopher Rouse ACE, executive producer, co-writer, and editor, explains that “Bourne carries the burdens of his sins of his past. So, it ultimately becomes an existential tale for him, and it’s only a matter of time before he hits critical mass.”

Jason Bourne - Alicia VikanderWhile Bourne was dealing with his past, the cast and crew thought it was very important to bring the character into the present. By casting Alicia Vikander in the role of Heather Lee (the head of the CIA’s Cyber Ops division) Bourne is finally pitted against someone who uses technology to their advantage. Due to this, Jason Bourne is more vulnerable and weathered than he ever was before in the previous movies. By having the likes of Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon at the forefront of this movie, however, Jason Bourne is back and ready to fight another day.
